Use the treated-zone test
Draw the exact area birds use and decide whether the goal is to block entry, remove a landing surface, or address an attractant. A ledge treatment cannot close an opening, and a net should not obstruct required access, ventilation, drainage, fire systems, or equipment service.
- ✓ species, landing, roosting, nesting, and entry observations
- ✓ ledge width, opening dimensions, corners, edges, beams, pipes, and doors
- ✓ substrate and attachment limitations
- ✓ maintenance access, entanglement risk, occupied areas, and aesthetics
- ✓ adjacent untreated surfaces and completion inspection
